Gabby Douglas Hair Problem. The discussion last night on the Twitter social network was not about the effort and all you had to overcome the young gymnast Gabrielle "Gabby" Douglas to move away from his family so to train to win the coveted gold. Yes there was talk of his excellent and flawless performance, but the theme that prevailed was that his hair did not look up to competing in Olympic gymnastics.
He was criticized for using too much "gel" for allegedly using a bun hairpiece (which they do many athletes including tennis sisters Serena and Venus Williams) and fill his head buckles. According to some, this did not represent either the African American woman in the eyes of the world.
If it were a beauty contest or fashion design, perhaps this criticism would have had some level of acceptance. But Douglas is in the Olympics, jumping and running exercises with style and perfection as very few women in the world regardless of race, color, religion, or political affiliations,-have managed to do.
And who do not understand, still today with the rain of criticism, while others seek to refute. The ideal would be to forget the hair and concluding that Gabrielle Douglas is the first black girl getting to America, a nation ruled by racial diversity, the gold medal in gymnastics.
