U.S. space agency (NASA) successfully landed robotic planetary rover (rover) advanced on Mars named Curiosity, Monday, August 6, 2012. U.S. President Barack Obama also praised NASA's mission.
"This accomplishment is unprecedented, which will be a point of national pride in the distant future," Obama said.
Curiosity which weighs one ton is 354 million mile journey to get to the red planet. The success of the Decade's mission dubbed Curiosity is reaping praise from many quarters.
"If anyone doubted the U.S. superiority in space, there are a ton of cars shaped like the work of the United States and it has landed on the surface of Mars today," said presidential adviser, John P. Holdren, in a press conference after the landing.
NASA scientists believe Curiosity landed on rocks 3.5 billion years old, Gale crater, and overlooking the crater wall as high as three miles. Rock is the focus of NASA. Therefore, the surface of the stone was expected to give clues physical history of the area and whether there is ever occupied the building blocks of living things in there.
In addition, the planet is initially wet and warm, then become dry and cold is also a concern.
Sophisticated instruments used in this mission could also speed up the possibility of a human landing on Mars. "Feeling the complex landing, but perfect, and saw the machine's exploration in the next few months could motivate young people," said Jean-Lou Chameau, President of the California Institute of Technology, who is also manager of the mission.
Curiosity became the seventh success of the Mars landing that everything is done by NASA. Rover sophisticated and heaviest ever sent to Mars spent over U.S. $ 2.5 billion. Though criticized for the amount of funds, NASA and government officials seem to believe Obama will be able to achieve even greater achievement.
