Samsung Electronics said it filed a patent lawsuit against Apple's iPhone 5. In a lawsuit filed in the Northern District Court of California on Thursday, the first time Samsung will seek orders prohibiting the sale of the product. Samsung insists that the iPhone 5 is very similar to the old model of the claimed infringing patents Samsung communications technology. iPhone 5 sold in the United States and in many other countries starting Friday.
The suit marks a new chapter "war" between the two technology giants. On August 24, a jury in the same court issued a ruling that Samsung violated Apple's design and technology patents, and ordered Samsung to pay U.S. $ 1.05 billion in compensation.
Samsung still making an appeal against the ruling. Regarding the recent lawsuit, a Samsung executive said the move was made to protect the wider public interest. "We decided to sue against the iPhone 5 with a view to ensuring the sustainability of the company's innovation and protect intellectual property rights," he said.
The two companies sued each other for dozens of patents in various countries. Most recently, the Japanese court rejected Apple's lawsuit over Samsung in the country, after Apple won a lawsuit in the United States and South Korea draw in court.
