Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel had no roots in the Middle East and will be "destroyed." It is expressed on Monday (24/9), UN chief ignored warnings to avoid provocative statements ahead of the UN General Assembly.
"Iran has been there since seven, 10 thousand years. They (Israel) have occupied the area for 60 to 70 years, with the help and power of the West. They do not have roots in history," Ahmadinejad said as quoted by Reuters, referring to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
Ahmadinejad told reporters in New York also said that the Jewish state is currently on the fence and trying to find a new adventure to escape from the abyss.
Israel and related threats to attack Iran, he said he did not take it seriously.
"Basically we do not respond to the Zionist threat seriously ... we have all manner of self-defense and we are ready to defend ourselves," Ahmadinejad said. "While we are fully prepared to defend ourselves, we do not respond to such threats seriously.''
"We did not count them on par with Iran. During the phase of history, they (Israel) addressing small perturbations that appear in the image, and then will be destroyed, "Ahmadinejad said in another statement.
Ahmadinejad is scheduled to speak at the UN Assembly on Wednesday (26/9).
